FIACONA Legislative Fellowship 2023
FIACONA is launching an annual Fellowship Program.
FIACONA is looking to place 5-10 Congressional fellows in 2024.
The fellows are fully Congressional staff, but are supported, paid, and advised through FIACONA.
This is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C.
The fellowship portfolio may include:
- Event planning – such as Congressional briefings
- Public speaking
- Research
- Informing members of Congress about human rights issues, India/America foreign policy, other human rights policy areas.
- Speech writing
- Attending Congressional briefings, hearings, and other human rights related events.
- Drafting Congressional letters – supporting issues such as cases of persecution around the world. Pastors, journalists, activists, etc.
- Drafting U.S. legislation in support of religious freedom, human rights, India, etc.
- Taking meetings with the State Department, foreign embassies, NGO’s, etc.
- Supporting Congressional members with any further needed support.
- Potential travel
Qualifications:
Fellows are selected on the basis of academic competence, as well as demonstrated interest in the public policy process. They must be articulate, adaptable, and have strong writing skills. They must also be able to work independently, and confidently on Capitol Hill.
Must have a bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) and previous work experience in any of the following: grassroots, international relations, research or journalism, etc.
Must also be able to provide the following:
- Writing samples – preferred relative topics
- 2 Letters of Recommendation
- Resume
- Completed application
Note: The applicant must be a legal resident of the United States

If you are selected, there will be an initial phone screening, followed by an interview, and then a final panel interview.
About FIACONA
FIACONA is a Washington DC based, voluntary, charitable organization advocating on behalf of 1 million strong Indian American Christians from all 50 states and Canada, It is a coalition of Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox, Evangelical, Pentecostal and independent church and civic organizations primarily of Indian Americans. FIACONA is a bridge builder for ecumenical advocacy focused on finding ways to reduce violence against Christians in India. Our focus is to preserve the socio-political space of the Christian church from encroachment by nationalist radical groups in the name of Hinduism or their representatives in the Indian government.
Our priorities:
- Protecting the interest of the Christian church in the Union of India is the primary mission of FIACONA.
- Ensuring the social, cultural, and political space of the church besides the protection of fundamental rights to safety, security and equal status of every single person following the Christian faith in the Union of India remains a priority for FIACONA.
- The threat to lives and properties of Christian communities in India, in spite of having all imaginable protections enshrined in the Constitution of India, remains a serious concern for the Federation.
