Protect America: Block Tulsi Gabbard as US Director of National Intelligence

Throughout her years in US Congress, Tulsi Gabbard:

• Twice wore the scarf of the BJP, a foreign political party, at events where attendees donated to her campaign.
• Openly defended the xenophobic religious nationalist ideology of Hindu nationalism as “expressing pride in one’s religion.”
• Defended Modi’s role in the 2002 Gujarat Massacre of thousands of Muslims as one that was “instigated.”
• Became the first US politician to openly embrace Modi’s previously prohibited visit to the US by garlanding him.
• Accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign donations from leaders in the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS), the international wing of the RSS, the Overseas Friends of the BJP (which is now a registered Foreign Agent in the US), and other affiliated organizations. These interlinked groups are collectively known as parts of the “Sangh Parivar” or “Family of Hindu Nationalist Organizations.”
• Appeared as a keynote speaker at nearly a dozen Sangh Parivar events around the US, including at least two RSS-linked events in India.
• Pursued policy actions in US Congress to torpedo attempts, early before and after Modi’s election, to criticize the Hindu nationalist movement for its pogroms of religious minorities.
• Received Ram Madhav, an RSS-BJP spokesperson, at her wedding as a representative of Modi.

India has undergone a radical transformation under Modi.
India has become an autocratic state in which religious minorities are repeatedly threatened with genocide by allies of the ruling party, lynchings are common, religious conversion is banned, churches and mosques are routinely attacked by mobs, peaceful political dissidents are jailed en masse for years on end, and existence within the country requires allegiance to the religion of the majority. This is not even to mention the burning of hundreds of churches and slaughter of hundreds of Christians in Manipur under Modi’s auspices in the past one year.

India has also begun interfering in the lives and liberties of North American citizens. Since 2023, India has assassinated a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil and attempted to assassinate a US citizen on US soil. Other citizens in North America have faced related transnational repression due to their criticism of Modi and his Hindu nationalist movement, especially its interference in North American socio politics.
This transnational repression is an obscene violation of US sovereignty. Any US politician who fails to denounce it is against putting America first. Tulsi Gabbard refuses to speak out against it.

Tulsi Gabbard, as a toady of Modi whose political career was launched by his sympathizers in the US, cannot be trusted as the Director of National Intelligence. Therefore, we the undersigned, demand that her appointment be blocked for the sake of national security.
